Biography

SANG MATIZ  ...sounds like The Gypsy Kings and Jamiroquai had a baby in South America!

Sang Matiz is starting the new year with an exotic mix of Afro-Brazilian/Peruvian rhythms fused with Funk/Reggae in their first New Album. With recognized and awarded musicians from the Bay Area they have found their zone of high energy vibrant sounds from South America and the US; a contagious new Beat to waken your inner self exposing your deepest emotions.

Sang Matiz has come a long way perfecting a combination of styles that can only be described as Danceable, Catchy, Fast, Syncopated melodies with a touch of Funk and Afro rhythms combined with flamenco style finger picking. They hail from Sonoma County back in 2008 making their way to San Francisco establishing a Fan Base of Americans and Latinos looking for a new edge in music.

"Sang Matiz" is a Latino fusion band, and a very good one. They deliver a tight clean act whose joy is infectious, and seems to get everyone dancing. It's music that is impossible to sit still through"

More About Sang Matiz:
Back in 2007 Yuriza Jared was playing with a traditional Flamenco Band called "David Correa & Cascada" based in Santa Rosa, California. That's when she met Eddie Cabezas Flamenco/Latin Guitarist at one of their venues. At that time The Band got signed all of the sudden to a record label, pushing Yuriza's dream to start her own project for a later time.  After touring the US. Yuri & Eddie decide to start "Sang Matiz" in early in 2008.
While Composing all original music in 2009 the duo moved to San Francisco, California where they met
Cata Atria (singer/dancer) and Johny major (drummer) changing the sound to a more Latin/Indie feel.

Later in 2010 Chicho Espinosa (bass player) joined the Band adding the Funk to the mix. While acquiring new styles and rhythms, Sang Matiz transformed  in to a more raw & Hip style, trying to fuse not just Rumba but Cumbian R&B & Samba together. The purpose of adding more flavors to their sound is to unite the many cultures of the places they've resided; to send a message of love and understanding with one another. While in the search for more musicians who might share the same passion; in late 2010 The Band met Miriam Speyer (Bass player) another composer to help with ideas for new songs. She introduced a more Pop/Jazz sound to the band.

Right after that in 2011,
Joe Castellanos joined the band to push the sound into a more Funk/R&B direction. As a quartet: Miriam, Joe, Eddie and Yuri started succeeding their goals in the BayArea when they met Maya Finlay (Sound Engineer/Musician) who joins  to play keyboard/Cavaquinho and decides to Record Sang Matiz's first Official Album.
At that point we realized we needed more percussion in our mix, when in 2012
Braulio Barrera (Percussionist) joins, bringing in Afro-Peruvian rhythms which we started fusing with electronic sounds.

Than Finally Sang Matiz won a Grant with Women's Audio Mission which allowed them to release their Debut Album sooner . For the Recording Jesus Martinez  along with Mario Alberto Silva and Miguelito Martinez joined to collaborate in the Album..

After 2013 first released Album they join forces with ex members of "Borucoe Band" an Amazonian Cumbia/Samba reggae band from Oakland to further explore afro and jungle rhythms in the search for new creations. Current members to join are: Alberto Terran, David Desemir, Clark Seal and Jesus Martinez.
